And they could now extend that advantage to 13 points after second-placed Arsenal had to settle for a 0-0 draw at third-placed Nottingham Forest in a 7.30pm kick-off.

And the Reds are currently on course to do just that as they lead the Magpies 2-0 thanks to another goal from the in-form Dominik Szoboszlai and a fine finish from his midfield partner Alexis Mac Allister.

Newcastle boosted their Champions League qualifications prospects with a hard-fought 4-3 victory at home to Forest on Sunday.
