Football academies are more important than ever in football.
Having a well functioning and competent academy not only helps develop top local talent, but also helps the club save millions in potential transfer fees.
First team players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones have become key members of the squad and also saved the club a bucketload in cash.
Clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City have also used the academy system to help sell talented youngsters and help the club navigate Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
So the importance of a great academy can never be understated.
This summer, Liverpool are making major changes throughout all levels of the club.
Besides the appointment of his successor Arne Slot and the potential outgoings and incomings of players during this summer transfer window, the club are expanding in its grassroots academies as well.
According to the club’s official website, Liverpool Football Club are looking to launch its first international academy in Bangkok, Thailand.
This is reported to be a long-term programme aimed at developing young talents in a region with a passionate fanbase.
The LFC International Academy Thailand will offer a year-round development programme for girls and boys of all abilities, aged 5-16 to learn to play The Liverpool Way.
This will be an exciting opportunity for youth prospects to train under exceptionally qualified coaches and play at the grassroots level for the club they support.
Players will be able to improve their unique technical and tactical aspects of their game while learning key life skills centred on the four values of The Liverpool Way: ambition, commitment, dignity and unity.
LFC International Academy Ambitions
Former Liverpool legend and LFC International Academy ambassador Ian Rush said: “We’re excited to bring the first LFC International Academy to Thailand, a region where the passion for football and LFC is immense.
“The aim of our international coaching programmes is to provide the very best experience for young players.
Alongside player development, coach education is an equally important aspect of the programme, which is why we introduce local coaches to the same philosophies and techniques delivered at our very own Academy in Liverpool.”
It can be seen that the decision to expand the Liverpool academy in Thailand is strategic?
There seems to be a passion for football and specifically for Liverpool growing within the region.
It’s also clear that while developing top talents are the aim, Liverpool equally value the importance of developing coaches and are looking to transfer the skills learned at Liverpool.
Ian Rush also added: “Both players and coaches will get the opportunity to develop their abilities on and off the pitch and do so through The Liverpool Way.”
It looks like this will be a positive expansion from both a Liverpool perspective and also from an international perspective as local coaches and players in Thailand will undoubtedly benefit from the culture, skills, knowledge and expertise being shared by an elite football club.
