'He changed the game'

Steven Gerrard talking to LFC TV about Peter Crouch's performance:

He changed the game. I think we played well throughout the game but we just needed a bit of magic, a bit of inspiration from the side, and the big man provided it.
17:18

Crouch 'quite emotional'

Two-goal Liverpool star Peter Crouch speaking to LFC TV after his impressive Legends debut:

It's quite emotional really because I never thought I'd come back here in any capacity as a player. So to play in the game was amazing, first and foremost for the Foundation, but to score a couple of goals in front of my family and friends it was amazing.
17:07

Watch! Peter Crouch rolls back the years

Two excellent goals from Peter Crouch were the difference between today's two sets of legends.

Watch them both below:

16:58

Lapping it up

Liverpool's players go on a lap of honour. Anfield is still pretty full.

Chelsea's players are also lapping up the applause from their fans.

Many of the players' children have now entered the pitch.

16:51

Full-time: Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea

That's it! No added time. The final whistle blows and two-goal star man Peter Crouch celebrates by waving to the crowd.

Crouch is then congratulated by Chelsea defender Robert Huth, a former team-mate from their Stoke City days.

16:45, 86'

Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea

A first save of the afternoon from David James to keep out a long-range effort from Ramires.

That followed a strong slide tackle by Kelly on Harley, who still came away with the ball.

16:42, 83'

Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea

Liverpool have used a much bigger squad than Chelsea and the home team's fresher legs have made a big difference.

Chelsea have kept their organisation up but it has been hard for them to get the ball at times.

Liverpool make another change as Cisse goes off, reluctantly! Kuyt is back on.

16:35, 76'

Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea

This was a very disciplined and organised contest, almost like a proper match, in the first half.

But it has become incredibly stretched in the last few minutes.

Chelsea just had a five-on-four situation but failed to take advantage.

16:31, 72'

Anfield rises for Zola

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola is on for the visitors.

He is welcomed onto the pitch by a standing ovation - and not just by the Chelsea supporters.

Zola replaces Jimmy Smith, who had only just come on.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have replaced Jay Spearing with Albert Riera.

16:25, 66'

Goal:LIVERPOOL 2-0 Chelsea (Crouch)

Crouchy again!

Gonzalez crosses deep from the left. Crouch gets up above Huth but fails to make a clean contact with his head.

The ball falls nicely for him though and he lobs the keeper with his right foot. GOOD TOUCH FOR A BIG MAN!

16:23, 64'

Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea

Great save by Westerveld to deny Robert Huth.

That will be his final action of the match as he is now coming off to make way for David James.

16:18, 59'

Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea

Peter Crouch is in the mood! He tries an acrobatic bicycle kick but gets nowhere near the ball.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have brought on Katie Chapman for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

16:14, 55'

Goal:LIVERPOOL 1-0 Chelsea (Crouch)

He's still got it!

Liverpool lead thanks to a brilliant header by Peter Crouch, who gets on the end of a cross from Sinama-Pongolle.

The big man celebrates by pulling out the robot.

16:12, 52'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

A chance at either end!

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink hits a sweet low free-kick from 25 yards. Westerveld makes a good save but doesn't get up straight away. However, he then springs into action to grab the loose ball.

Liverpool then go up the other end and Cisse heads just wide.

16:10

Second-half lineups

There were a lot of changes at the interval. The teams on the pitch currently look like this...

Liverpool: Westerveld, Kelly, Klavan, Aurelio, Riera, Gerrard, Benayoun, Gonzalez, Cisse, Crouch, Sinama-Pongolle

Chelsea: Green, Bosingwa, Huth, Mancienne, Babayaro; Mikel, Harley, Makelele, Ramires, Hasselbaink, Malouda

16:05, 46'

Back underway

Peter Crouch, Florent Sinama-Pongolle, Mark Gonzalez, Fabio Aurelio and Djibril Cisse have all come on for Liverpool.

Rob Green and Michael Mancienne have joined the game for Chelsea.

The Reds get the second half underway and are kicking towards the Kop.

15:59

Crouchy incoming

There was a big cheer around Anfield moments ago as Peter Crouch emerged for a warm-up ahead of the second half.

His introduction could be key.

Liverpool have got into some good wide positions already, so having Crouch in the middle could make a big difference.

15:48

Half-time: Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

Martin Kelly fires just wide from inside the box in the final minute of what has been a slightly underwhelming first half.

Let's hope for more drama in the second period.

We've seen flashes of nice play but no legendary magic just yet. However, with some of the names on the bench, magic could very well still be on the cards.

15:41, 39'

Wise off for Chelsea

This game has witnessed a lot of disciplined play from two well organised teams so far.

But as the players tire, one suspects it might open up and make way for a flood of goals.

Chelsea have just subbed off captain Wise, with Jon Harley taking his place.

15:37, 35'

Liverpool Women's record scorer on

Liverpool make another sub.

Natasha Dowie, who is the club's all-time record scorer for the women's team with 47 goals, comes on for Mohamed Sissoko.

15:34, 32'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

Liverpool win a corner, which Gerrard jogs over to take in front of the Chelsea fans.

Those fans sing a famous old song about him slipping but Gerrard almost has the perfect response as he whips in a fine cross.

However, it is headed just wide by Sami Hyypia.

15:31, 29'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

Steven Gerrard goes flying through the air in an effort to volley Martin Kelly's cross into the net.

But Jose Bosingwa gets a vital touch and Gerrard ends up kicking thin air.

15:27, 25'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

Liverpool press high to pressurise a Chelsea goal kick.

Cudicini therefore opts against playing a short pass but his long clearance is not long enough and almost results in the opening goal.

However, Kuyt can't find the finishing touch.

15:24

'I'm tired watching them'

Liverpool legend John Barnes speaking to LFC TV from the home bench:

I'm glad I'm not on the pitch because I'm tired watching them.
15:21, 18'

First injury

We appear to have our first injury of the afternoon.

Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek makes a fine catch to intercept a cross from William Gallas.

He then tries to start a counter-attack by sprinting to the edge of his box and launching a long kick forward.

That will be his final involvement though as he's tweaked something.

Off goes the hero of the 2005 Champions League final and on comes Sander Westerveld.

15:16, 14'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

The match matters to many of the players out there.

Not least Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool captain has just given team-mate Jay Spearing a right telling off for letting his standards slip.

Liverpool have also just come close to opening the scoring.

Gregory Vignal fired in a vicious goal-board effort only for it to be blocked by team-mate Ryan Babel.

Desperate to make up for that, Babel tries to score from his own half... but fails.

15:11, 9'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea's first attack of the game sees the away side win a corner.

It is well cleared by the busy Gerrard before Ryan Babel launches a solo counter-attack.

The Dutchman skins Wise but is too fast for the rest of his team-mates and the breakaway fizzles out.

15:07, 5'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

It's been all Liverpool so far.

Steven Gerrard has twice found space on the right wing and has whipped in a couple of nice crosses.

The only shot so far has come from Jay Spearing, who forced a decent save out of Cudicini from 20 yards.

15:04, 2'

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

This might be an oldies game but Liverpool are pressing Chelsea high up the pitch early on.

The game is only two minutes' old. It will be interesting to see how long the Reds can keep that up for.

15:02, 1'

And they're off!

Captains Gerrard and Wise shake hands before 52-year-old Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink takes the kick-off.

Anfield roars expectantly. Here we go...

Here come the players

Kick-off is just minutes away.

Both sets of players enter the arena as 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is belted out.

Scarves everywhere (including quite a few half and halves).

This is not your average charity game. What a picture.

14:53

'Out of work' Gerrard excited to be back at Anfield

Steven Gerrard just spoke to LFC TV ahead of kick-off.

He joked that he was available due to being 'out of work', before saying how excited he was to be back at Anfield.

Gerrard also suggested that he was in awe at being in the presence of some of his own heroes - including John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish.

But he was keen to point out that this game is all about raising money for the LFC Foundation and the many vital community initiatives it supports.

Wise and Zola recall Anfield memories

Dennis Wise is captaining Chelsea today.

Earlier this week, he and Gianfranco Zola spoke to chelseafc.com to discuss their favourite games against Liverpool.

Wise said: 'We had some good times up at Liverpool,' said Wise. 'And we had some not so good times!

'I remember I scored the winner once in a 2-1 win, that was a good one, but I definitely made a few mistakes up there and I think I was sent off too!'

Zola said: 'It's always been a tough game against them, but I always say that I probably played my most memorable Chelsea game against them.

'That was in the fourth round of the FA Cup in my first year. We were two goals down but came back to win 4-2, and then we went on to win the FA Cup.

'That, for me, was one of the most fantastic and emotional games I have ever played.'

'Rusty' Crouch coy on robot requests

Liverpool legend Peter Crouch just told LFC TV that he is 'rusty' but ready to play 45 minutes.

He also revealed that he has been inundated with requests to 'do the robot' if he scores today.

However, he refused to confirm whether or not he will perform his trademark move, which was synonymous with his England career but never actually witnessed at Anfield.

A classic fixture

Liverpool vs Chelsea at Anfield has delivered some epic encounters down the years.

Who can forget that Luis Garcia ghost goal in the Champions League in 2005?

Or Chelsea's 4-1 win on Merseyside just months later?

Liverpool's biggest home win over Chelsea in the Premier League era was a 5-1 demolition back in 1996.
