Despite only making eight appearances in the Premier League this season, Caoimhin Kelleher crucially kept clean sheets in three of those, having been benched for 17 of their league matches, including Wednesday evening's game at Aston Villa.
Ex-England international and former Wrexham keeper Foster has hailed Kelleher's impact, believing the Irishman is a big part of the reason Liverpool are sitting at the top of the league.
Foster particularly praised Kelleher for delivering strong performances when called upon to deputise for Alisson Becker.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Foster addressed Carragher’s comments by saying: "I disagree… we've got some fantastic number ones in the Premier League, who are some of the best in the world.
We've been quite unlucky this season with a lot of goalkeepers getting injuries, and (clubs are) relying on number two goalkeepers to come in.
"The good thing for Liverpool, and it's probably the reason why they're still top of the league, is that their number two goalkeeper is Caoimhin Kelleher, who's been phenomenal.
