Liverpool supporters have sent a tongue-in-cheek message to their neighbours Everton as the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park takes place this evening.

The atmosphere in the city has been at fever pitch today considering the momentous occasion for both teams.

For Everton, the match signifies their last against Liverpool at Goodison Park before they make the move to Bramley Moore Dock.



As the teams emerged from the tunnel, the TNT Sports cameras panned to the Liverpool fans who held a banner aloft which read: "At least an empty cabinet is easier to move.

30 years."

This refers to the last time Everton won a major trophy - the 1995 FA Cup - which saw them beat Manchester United in the final.

The cheeky messages were reciprocated in the run-up to the match from the Blues.

On the matchday programme, Everton chose to include a picture of Mikel Arteta celebrating a goal in the Merseyside derby.

This has caused a stir considering Arteta is now the manager of Arsenal, Liverpool's nearest challengers for the Premier League title this season.

Unsurprisingly, the derby has started off fiery with Beto opening the scoring for the hosts with a confident finish.
