Everyone loves a good Premier League hijack, yet for Liverpool fans, they have been burned on more than one occasion by rivals Chelsea.

The west London side have been one of the biggest spenders in football since the turn of the century, a trend that continued under their new American owners following the Clearlake takeover of Chelsea in the summer of 2022.

With that came unrivalled levels of spending that few football fans would have predicted, with the 2023 summer transfer window a notable highlight as Chelsea spent well over £160m to secure the signings of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, two players who Liverpool were strongly linked with that year.

Heading into this summer, both Chelsea and Liverpool are again eyeing one of the best talents in the Premier League, and the Reds can pull off the ultimate revenge arc by beating their English rivals to the player’s signature.

Chelsea are believed to be in the driving seat for Dean Huijsen, with the AFC Bournemouth defender ‘strongly considering’ a switch to Stamford Bridge despite talks with Liverpool in recent weeks leading into the summer.

Lauded by Alan Shearer as an ‘outstanding’ centre-back via the Rest is Football, Huijsen has been one of the breakout stars in the Premier League this season, with Bournemouth still on track for an unlikely European finish with five games left to go.

Yet whilst Chelsea are now the leaders for Huijsen’s signature, that means nothing for a player with a release clause, especially one valued at just £50m, a fee that a club like Liverpool could easily match with the right incentive.

With the Reds in the market for a centre-back and Huijsen clearly a top target for Liverpool, the Anfield side can secure two huge wins off the pitch by securing the defender’s signature, with handing Chelsea a blow in the market something that many supporters will want to get behind.

And Liverpool beating Chelsea to Huijsen will be huge, with the Reds finally getting one over their Premier League rivals for one of the most in-demand players in Europe going into this transfer window.

Indeed, Liverpool have been burned by Chelsea on more than one occasion in the transfer market, and finally beating the west London side to a talent as goof as Huijsen will feel like a huge result for the Reds in the summer.
