As Liverpool continue their impressive Premier League campaign under Arne Slot, all indications point toward a significant recruitment drive in the upcoming summer transfer window.
After two notably quiet transfer periods since his arrival, the Dutch manager has explicitly confirmed the club’s intentions to strengthen the squad once the current season concludes.
Speaking to the BBC in January, Slot eased fears around the lack of investment in the squad, saying:
“Liverpool should always be competing for a league title, we should always be competing for the Champions League.
I’m hoping I will be able to keep the club at that level.”
“I know people sometimes question this because they haven’t seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well?
There’s a reason for that – because we’re happy with the squad.”
“But I do know we’re definitely working on strengthening in the summer.”
And it seems the club are continuing to do their homework ahead of the end of the season.
After Fabrizio Romano has already reported that Milos Kerkez is on Liverpool’s list, there seems to be another defender catching the eye of the Reds.
Lewis Steele, writing in the Daily Mail’s Liverpool Confidential, has reported that the Reds have recently scouted Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez.
The 20-year-old Ecuadorian international has seen his stock rise dramatically following impressive performances in both domestic and Champions League competition.
During the 2023-24 campaign, the centre-back played a crucial role in helping Club Brugge secure the Belgian First Division A title.
His rise has continued into the current 2024-25 season, with the defender making 21 league appearances and featuring prominently in the Champions League.
On the international stage, Ordonez has represented Ecuador at various youth levels, including captaining the U15 side at the 2019 South American U-15 Championship.
His consistent club performances have recently earned him recognition at senior international level, with four caps for Ecuador’s full national team.
