Liverpool could be set for a windfall this summer after Bobby Clark’s father, Lee, admitted the former Reds midfielder could leave Red Bull Salzburg.

The 20-year-old made 14 appearances under Jurgen Klopp, returning a goal and two assists, before he joined the Austrian outfit in a £10m move last year.

The switch saw Clark reunite with Pep Lijnders, Klopp’s former assistant manager, after the Dutchman had been confirmed as Salzburg’s new head coach last May ahead of his own Anfield departure.

However, Lijnders was dismissed in January after a disappointing first half of the season, with Clark’s game-time being limited under successor, Thomas Letsch.

Liverpool included a 17.5% sell-on clause in the deal that took Clark to Austria, ensuring they could be in line to benefit if Salzburg sold the midfielder, while they also have matching rights for any future sale down the line.

Clark was the subject of offers from a number of British clubs in January only to stay put in Austria.

And while Clark Snr insists his son is enjoying his time with Salzburg, he admits it has also been hard for him.

"Bobby is enjoying life in Austria.

“Red Bull is an unbelievable organisation.

“Salzburg are trying to win the league which is always their aim, if not to get into Champions League again.

"It has been hard, the manager he went and signed for in Pepijn Lijnders lost his job so it was the first time Bobby experienced that.

“In a short space of time as a young professional, he has experienced a lot of ups and downs.

Starting 13 times, six of his outings came in the Champions League league phase.

However, he has made just five appearances since Lijnders' dismissal - starting only twice - with Salzburg in action 12 times since the former Liverpool number two's departure.

Absent from the matchday squad for last Sunday's defeat to Sturm Graz, he posted a black and white picture on his Instagram on Monday night.

Only the top two qualify for next season’s Champions League qualifiers.

Regardless, Salzburg have the FIFA Club World Cup to look forward to in the United States this summer, having been drawn in a group with Real Madrid, Al-Hilal and Pachuca.

And Clark Snr believes the tournament could open the door for more opportunities and exposure for the former Liverpool starlet following his experience in this season’s Champions League.

"Bobby had a good run in the Champions League, from the eight games he started four, came on sub in two,” Clark Snr said.
