Liverpool has reportedly held talks with Newcastle over a potential move for England international Anthony Gordon.

Gordon, who joined the Magpies in January 2023 from Everton, produced an unbelievable campaign last term, winning Newcastle’s player of the season award.

Newcastle are facing PSR issues, which could force them to sell one of their best players.

While the deal fell through due to Liverpool refusing to entertain any deal involving Quansah heading to Tyneside, reports have claimed there is a small chance it could be re-ignited.

And with that in mind, Liverpool.com has taken a look at players who could be involved in any swap deal for Gordon, should talks recommence.

Joe Gomez

If Liverpool is unwilling to part with Quansah in a deal for Gordon, then perhaps the Magpies would be interested in another Reds defender in the form of Joe Gomez.

Newcastle has already signed a defender this summer with the addition of Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth and were thought to be close to bringing in Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, before he opted to join Chelsea instead.

So, it would seem reasonable that they may consider Gomez, who can play all across the back four.

That said, letting Gomez go would leave Liverpool without an incredibly versatile defender who would need to be replaced, potentially by more than one player given the positions he can cover.

Luis Diaz or Cody Gakpo

The reality is, if Liverpool wants to bring Gordon to Anfield, then they will likely have to shift a forward.

It seems unlikely Liverpool will move Darwin Nunez, or the versatile Diogo Jota, who can play all across the frontline.

By offering either to Newcastle in a deal for Gordon, the Magpies would essentially be able to plug the hole left by the England international.

While it’s easy to pick and choose which player you would offer in a swap deal, that player you’re sending the other way then has to agree to terms with the other club.

Liverpool will be playing Champions League football next season and a move to Newcastle may be seen as a step down for either Gakpo or Diaz.

The Colombian's future remains uncertain though amid interest from Barcelona but Arne Slot is likely to want to work with countryman Gakpo.

It seems highly unlikely Liverpool would offer Harvey Elliot in a swap deal for Gordon.
