Real Madrid's involvement in the Club World Cup means they are reportedly prepared to pay Liverpool a fee in order to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold early.
The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with a move for Alexander-Arnold, but had an offer rejected by Liverpool in the January transfer window.
According to a new report from the The Sun, Liverpool could still bank a transfer fee as Madrid want Alexander-Arnold to be available for the Club World Cup.
The right-back's contract does not expire until June 30 and the tournament is set to start on June 14, meaning Madrid would have to reach an agreement with Liverpool to release Alexander-Arnold from his deal early.
The report adds that the summer transfer window is set to open early this year on June 1 meaning new signings can play at the Club World Cup, while FIFA has also created an "exceptional registration window" which will allow clubs involved in the tournament to replace players in their squad between June 27 and July 3.
.
However, it is claimed that Liverpool have 'not given up hope' that Alexander-Arnold will decide to remain at Anfield, with manager Arne Slot insisting in January that the 26-year-old remains "fully committed" to the club.
