Natural wide players Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have contributed 49 of Liverpool's league goals this term, prompting the club to consider signing a new striker this summer in order to ease the goal-scoring burden on that trio next term.

Former Rangers star Ally McCoist named Harry Kane as a possible option as the England captain closes in on a first major trophy of his career: the Bundesliga crown with Bayern Munich.

"I look at Liverpool just now and they probably – not as much as Arsenal – could still do with an out-and-out No.9," McCoist said on talkSPORT.

"(Luis) Diaz has been brilliant, Salah has been out of this world and they’ve got midfielders chipping in, but maybe still a goalscoring centre forward [would help].

"I don’t see it happening but say if Harry Kane won the Bundesliga, which he will do, and then fancied coming back to England – that would be a dream move for him."

Troy Deeney, meanwhile, said that Alexander Isak would be the ideal target after impressing for Newcastle over the last three seasons

If they were to get that, just give them the title for the next five years if they get that fella," Deeney said, before addressing other areas of the squad that he believes need strengthening
