It wasn’t the most convincing victory over West Ham United on Sunday, but at this stage of the season it really doesn’t matter.
Liverpool are now just two victories away from being crowned Premier League title winners.
There’s no doubt the Reds will make deserving champions.
And what I would say is that how Manchester City and Liverpool have won the title in the last six or seven years hasn’t been normal.
The first half against West Ham United wasn’t actually that bad at all, and we were pretty good in the opening 25 minutes.
Normally Slot is the one who recognises when things aren’t going well and tweaks things during the interval, but this time he was in a way out-thought by his opponent.
The second half was just flat, which we have been seeing a bit more of in the last month
You could sense West Ham could get something from the game, but the manner in which they were eventually gifted a goal was poor.
I wouldn’t say Liverpool were going through the motions in the second half, but they seemed a bit in two minds
The fact Alisson Becker was our best player tells you everything.
The good thing from Liverpool’s point of view is the reaction that came after West Ham drew level, which did make you wonder why they couldn’t have done that earlier in the game.
But it’s a sign of a great mentality that we were able to then go on and get the winner and ultimately none of the rest of the second half mattered once Virgil van Dijk scored.
Liverpool have been brilliant for the vast majority of the season and a couple of iffy performances of late shouldn’t allow anyone to forget that fact.
Leicester won't be easy
Liverpool could now win the title as early as Sunday if Ipswich beat Arsenal and we go on to win at Leicester City later in the day.
But regardless of when – and it really should be when – the title is secured, there’s a very good reason why Arne Slot will want it to be as soon as possible.
With the title in the bag, the Liverpool boss will be able to start fully focusing on next season early, which is a luxury that isn’t often afforded teams competing for honours.
Leicester won’t be the cannon fodder some people might expect
