Liverpool has got wind that Pep Guardiola's fresh one-year contract extension with Manchester City is missing a relegation release clause.
The Spanish maestro inked a new deal on Tuesday, securing his stay at the reigning Premier League champs until 2026.
Guardiola's previous deal was ticking down to its end this summer, casting a shadow of uncertainty over his tenure amid City's tussle with the Premier League over legal issues.
The hearing for the alleged financial missteps, which City vehemently denies, was set to wrap up this month.
The panel in charge will now take their time to mull over a judgement, with an announcement expected in early 2025.
Post-verdict, both the Premier League and City can challenge the decision.
Last year, the 53-year-old emphasised his loyalty to the club, regardless of their league status, stating: "Absolutely I will not consider my future if it depends on being here [Premier League] or being in League One.
There is more chance to stay if we are in League One than if we were in the Champions League."
In September, as the hearing for the case commenced, Guardiola levelled an accusation at Liverpool and other Premier League clubs, suggesting they were eager to see City penalised over its numerous charges before any verdict had been reached.
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp commented on the situation back in May, expressing his admiration for Guardiola: "No matter what has transpired at Man City, Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world, and that is truly significant.
"If you put any other manager in that club, they don't win the league four times in a row.
