Liverpool is reportedly likely to have to wait until next summer to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton.

The Reds have been linked with the Brazilian forward in recent weeks, with head coach Arne Slot and chief executive of soccer Michael Edwards seemingly keen to bolster the team's attacking options.

Pedro joined Brighton from Watford in 2023 for a fee of around $38million and has impressed during his time with the Seagulls, scoring 24 goals and registering six assists in 51 appearances.

Football Insider says Liverpool has been tracking Pedro's process and is plotting a move for the Brazilian, but a transfer is not expected to materialise during the January transfer window.

Pedro is reportedly open to leaving Brighton for one of the Premier League's top teams, and Liverpool certainly falls into that category.

Liverpool is said to be attracted by the versatility of Pedro, who can play anywhere across the front line, with Diogo Jota's frequent injury problems apparently a factor in the club considering attacking signings.

The struggles of Darwin Nunez will almost certainly be a factor, too, with the Uruguayan having scored just two Premier League goals this season.

It is reported that Brighton will seek a fee that is at least double the amount it paid to sign Pedro last year, so Liverpool could be looking at an outlay of more than $75million to sign the 23-year-old.

Earlier this month, Liverpool was reported by Brazilian outlet UOL to have held exploratory talks over a deal to sign Pedro, who had also been linked with Manchester United.

It was claimed that both Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth were largely behind United's interest in Pedro, so it is unclear whether the Red Devils remain keen given both men have left the club over the last few months.
