A representative of Liverpool fan group the Spirit of Shankly (SOS) was present at an informal Premier League meeting to discuss a variety of grievances including ticket prices and “continued action to address the increasing risk of challenges to the sporting integrity and competitive balance of our game” in relation to the Manchester City/Premier League Associated Party Rules hearing.

SOS member George Bevan joined representatives from Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, and the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) for an informal meeting with the Premier League.

The SOS rep answered questions and provided a broad summary of the SOS motion on ticket prices that was put out at the most recent FSA general meeting.

It was decided that the PL and supporter representatives would continue their ongoing conversations, including special meetings to discuss pricing and ticketing.

What did the Liverpool fan group present at the meeting?

Details of one motion that was presented by the SOS revolve around coordinated action on the cost of football tickets, and this motion was supported by the Arsenal and Manchester United Supporters Trust amongst other clubs’ fan groups:

“Note that despite the cost-of-living crisis and football clubs earning ever more income from broadcast and commercial income, the cost of football tickets increased at most clubs this year.”

“Further note that many clubs are abolishing or reducing concessionary tickets penalising loyal senior fans and pricing out young fans who are the future of the game.”

“Express concern that clubs are exploiting the loyalty of fans who cannot switch their ‘brand allegiance’ as customers can in other sectors and that we are also seeing a gradual reduction in season ticket and general admission numbers in favour of a growing number of hospitality and one-off admissions.”

The other proposal was the aforementioned concern of the Premier League’s Associated Party Rules.

The PL and FSA released the following joint statement on the matter:

“The Football Supporters’ Association along with supporter representatives from Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United met with the Premier League this week to discuss ticketing.”

“The meeting was arranged following the last structured dialogue meeting with the Premier League, where both supporter representatives and the Premier League discussed the current rules and guidance on ticketing rules in Premier League Handbook, following supporter concerns about price increases and changes to or the reduction of concessionary prices at some clubs.”

“The Premier League also explained the timeline and rules relating to the implementation of digital ticketing.”

Last season, there was some outcry after Liverpool increased ticket prices without consulting fan groups
