Philip Joseph Dooley died after being struck by a vehicle in Bergamo, a city located north east of Milan, in the early hours of Tuesday, September 17.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that they are assisting Italian authorities with the investigation and have informed Philip's next of kin.
Two individuals who witnessed the incident are also aiding the investigation led by Italian police.
Philip was among the thousands of Liverpool fans who had travelled to Italy for the club's match against AC Milan at San Siro on Tuesday.
