Liverpool have now learnt the first game they will play in the 2025/26 season after winning the Premier League title on Sunday.

The Reds officially secured the maximum points needed to be crowned champions of England for this season on Sunday when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah gave Arne Slot’s side the win that ensured that neither Arsenal nor any of the other teams can match Liverpool’s points tally this season with four games to go.

The win also meant that Liverpool are now officially the most successful club in England.

Slot’s side has 47 major honours (20 league titles, eight FA Cups, 10 League Cups, six European Cups and three UEFA Cups), three clear of Man United (44).

The Reds have won the most major trophies of any English club, and by securing a 20th league title, they are now tied with Manchester United as the side with the most league titles in the top flight.

The two sides are now level on English league titles (20 each) as it stands, but United are three behind Liverpool when it comes to the beacon of prestige that is the European Cup/Champions League.

Having secured the title, the focus is now shifting gradually to next season.

The club is already making plans to strengthen the squad in the summer, and players are already gearing up to defend their crown.

Ibrahima Konate, for example, has declared he and his teammates need to move on quickly from the celebrations and switch focus to next season as soon as possible.

“First thing is to enjoy [this one] because when we start next season it’s finished,” he said

“We don’t have to forget because this is in our locker, but we have to focus on next season and give everything to win it again?

Why not?”

Liverpool can already look ahead to next season, with their title triumph meaning that they know what their first fixture of next season will be.

Liverpool’s first fixture next season will be the 2025 FA Community Shield.

The annual Community Shield traditionally sees England’s league champions meet the FA Cup winners, and Liverpool’s title triumph means that they will face one of Crystal Palace or Manchester City, who are set to clash in the final of that competition on May 17.

Last November, the Premier League confirmed that next season will start on Saturday, 16 August 2025.

And so, while the exact date for the game is yet to be announced, the Premier League calendar suggests that the game will take place on Saturday, August 9th.

Kick-off time for the Community Shield is yet to be confirmed, but the Reds will travel to Wembley a week before the first weekend of the Premier League season.

With the Community Shield still four months away, Liverpool will busy themselves with winning the remaining four league games of the season, before their pre-season trip to Asia, where they are set to face AC Milan in their first game.
