Liverpool mustn't be afraid to splash the cash on a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 26-year-old defender faces an increasingly uncertain future at Anfield, with his contract set to expire in the coming months.

Since the start of the year, foreign clubs have been eligible to open pre-contract talks with Alexander-Arnold over a free move in the summer. Rather than cash in on the England international during the January transfer window, the Reds refused to be bullied into a sale.

Liverpool stood their ground, banking on Alexander-Arnold to pen an extension. If he doesn't sign a new deal, then he'll be free to leave at the end of June, and the Reds won't be entitled to a compensation fee, missing out on millions.

As it stands, it remains to be seen whether or not the right-back will extend his stay at Anfield – but that mustn't stop Arne Slot from exploring the market for a replacement. So, with that being said, the ECHO has looked at which right-backs Liverpool should target this summer.

Jeremie Frimpong

Frimpong would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool. While he wouldn't offer the Reds the same quality from deeper positions with his range of passing, he'd be a really exciting outlet on the right-hand side – especially when overlapping Mohamed Salah.

The 24-year-old, who sees his contract expire in June 2028, has featured 29 times for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season, scoring four goals and providing six assists. Playing a key role in Xabi Alonso's side, he's helped the German outfit climb to second in the table behind only Bayern Munich.

Pedro Porro

Porro would offer Liverpool some Premier League experience. If Tottenham Hotspur fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season, the Reds should test the waters, knowing the financial impact of missing out on European football.

The 25-year-old, who sees his contract expire in June 2028, has featured 30 times for Spurs in the English top-flight this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists. Despite the Lilywhite's poor results, Porro has been a shining light in Ange Postecoglou's side – and he has quality across the board.

Daniel Munoz

If Liverpool aren't looking to set aside much funding for a new right-back, but they still want, some Premier League experience, they should take a look at Munoz. The 28-year-old has been excellent for Crystal Palace this season, flying up and down the right-flank.

Munoz, who also sees his contract expire in June 2028, has featured 32 times in the Premier League, scoring four goals and providing five assists. Similarly to Frimpong, the Colombia international would offer Slot something different to Alexander-Arnold – he'd be an outlet.

Jules Kounde

If Slot wants to really shore up the defence, Liverpool should go and sign Kounde. He'd provide the Reds with great security at the back, granting Andy Robertson – or potentially even Milos Kerkez – the license to bomb forward down the left.

Kounde, who sees his contract expire in June 2027, has featured 32 times in La Liga this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists. Unlike anybody else on this list, the France international would be incredibly difficult to sign – but that shouldn't stop Liverpool from trying!

Lutsharel Geertruida

Geertruida, who was heavily linked with a move to Anfield when Slot first replaced Jurgen Klopp, would be a ready-made fit for Liverpool. He has previously worked closely with the Liverpool boss, making him a natural candidate.

The 24-year-old, who sees his contract expire in June 2029, has featured 21 times for RB Leipzig in Bundesliga this season, making just 15 starts. The Netherlands international has struggled to force himself into the German side since arriving for £21.4m in the summer – so the Reds will know exactly how to sweeten catch his attention.
