In a statement released during the match, the Premier League said Ward-Prowse's handling had been deemed 'accidental', and Hackett believes the fact the midfielder was looking away from the ball means that the correct decision was made.

"It's an interesting one because he's got his hand out, it's well extended.

I think the reason they've not given it is because he's looking away from it and not looking at the ball," he told Football Insider.

"I think what's helped the player is, yes, he's got his hands out, but he's not looking at the ball.

I think that's why they've said accidental.

"I think if his head was facing in the direction where the ball was then they're going to award a penalty kick 100 times out of a 100.

So I think the head position is showing the player isn't looking to deliberately handle the ball, and the ball has struck his hand, even though it's extended out from the body.

"So I think I support that decision.

"We face Leicester and everybody can talk, talk, talk, but what I saw is that for the first time in 11 games is they scored two goals and got a result, so they probably have a bit more confidence going into the game now.

"We've shown in the last 32 games that there have only been two or three wins that were quite comfortable, but the rest of them were very, very, very hard work and that's our only focus, that's my only focus; winning a game of football."
