Ibrahima Konate was judged to have fouled Nick Pope as Liverpool tried to score a third goal(Image: Getty Images)
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher believes that referee Stuart Atwell made the right decision to disallow Cody Gakpo's late goal during Liverpool's 2-0 win against Newcastle United.
Arne Slot's side were chasing a third to put the icing on the cake on another professional performance.
However, referee Atwell judged that Ibrahima Konate had fouled Pope when challenging the ball before it eventually fell to Gakpo.

Gallagher is in full agreement that Atwell made the correct decision for the goal NOT to stand.
The Newcastle players react immediately, the Liverpool players almost anticipate it's going to come.
Liverpool felt they should have had a third-minute penalty for a challenge from Lewis Hall on Mohamed Salah.
He feels that Hall has been barged by Salah outside the box.
"If Stuart Attwell hadn't given a foul on Hall, it's 100 per cent a penalty because he's brought Salah down.
But the referee whistled for the first foul on Hall so a free kick for Newcastle rather than a penalty for Liverpool."
Although Liverpool were frustrated about both decisions, it didn't matter to the end result as Slot's men moved 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League after Arsenal dropped points at Nottingham Forest.

Delivering his reaction in his post-match press conference, Slot said: "What impressed me most was that this was our fifth game in 15 days and the four before weren't the most simple ones.
"So, Everton we all know how an emotional game that was for both teams but definitely for us as well and then Wolves and then two difficult away games with [Aston] Villa and [Manchester] City.
"To show up the way we did tonight, hardly conceding a chance against a very good team like Newcastle, is a big compliment for the players [in] how they handled these five games in 15 days."
