Liverpool have been handed a major double injury boost ahead of this week’s Merseyside derby.

The Reds return to action on Wednesday night with a massive showdown at Anfield, with their lack of involvement in FA Cup quarter-final weekend meaning it has been two-and-a-half weeks since their painful Carabao Cup final defeat by Newcastle at Wembley that followed a Champions League last-16 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.

Arne Slot’s runaway leaders will now be fully focused on clinching the Premier League title as the season run-in begins, sitting 12 points clear of nearest rivals Arsenal - who host Fulham at the Emirates Stadium 24 hours earlier - before they welcome local rivals Everton across Stanley Park, just weeks after an explosive 2-2 draw in the last-ever derby to be held at Goodison Park that saw James Tarkowski score a last-gasp equaliser and four red cards dished out in chaotic scenes after the final whistle, including to Slot.

Liverpool will remain without the Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold against Everton, with the England right-back targeting a return before the end of April having been sidelined since injuring his ankle in the second leg against PSG.

Conor Bradley is said to be progressing in his recovery from a hamstring injury but not yet ready to return and Joe Gomez taking part in light running drills on Monday as he works his way back from hamstring surgery, leaving Slot very short on right-back options again after Jarell Quansah filled in there at Wembley.

But in a major boost for Liverpool, both Alisson Becker and Ryan Gravenberch were seen taking part in Monday’s session at the AXA Training Centre after fitness scares over the international break.

First-choice goalkeeper Alisson started for Brazil in their home World Cup qualifier against Colombia last week, but was substituted with a concussion after colliding painfully with ex-Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez inside the six-yard box.

He subsequently underwent tests and withdrew from the Selecao squad ahead of their humiliating 4-1 defeat by arch-rivals Argentina in Buenos Aires, returning to Merseyside early but now looking on track to start as normal against Everton.

Midfield ever-present Gravenberch went off in the second half against Newcastle, initially joining up with the Netherlands squad but then withdrawing ahead of their Nations League quarter-final first-leg tie against Spain due to what the Oranje described as an issue picked up at Wembley.

However, it was reported that move was precautionary and that the 22-year-old was expected to be fit for Liverpool’s title run-in.

Like Alisson, he was seen taking full part in training on Monday.

Fellow midfielder Tyler Morton was also back with the group having undergone a shoulder operation back in February.

Liverpool had a minor injury concern over Harvey Elliott going into the international break after a challenge from Joelinton led to him receiving treatment, being helped off the pitch and limping away from Wembley a fortnight ago, though he played for the England Under-21s in both of their recent friendly matches against France and Portugal.
