Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher says Luis Diaz's 'clever' nudge on Wolves defender Emmanuel Agbadou was not enough to constitute a foul.

The West Midlands club felt aggrieved with less than ten minutes of the first half remaining when the Colombian knocked off the challenge of the centre-back before being tripped by Jose Sa in the area for a Liverpool penalty.

Despite protests from the away team - not to mention a customary VAR check - it was agreed that the challenge did not constitute a foul and that the penalty would stand.

Mohamed Salah stepped up to convert the spot kick in front of the Kop and create some breathing distance between themselves and their lowly opponents.

With Wolves fans reeling, Carragher explained, on commentary, why he felt the penalty was allowed to stand.

"There's definitely a nudge on the defender, but it would definitely put you off, but it's not enough to be given a foul," said the former Liverpool and England centre-back.

"Probably clever from Luis Diaz actually just to nudge the defender out the way." After seeing the incident - once again - from a reverse angle, Carragher added: "This is what VAR were looking at it - as there's a slight nudge.

"Maybe the defender doesn't make enough of that, but it certainly would have put him off.

Well that's probably not enough there for a foul really and, again, not the biggest contact but if you are a goalkeeper and you come out and you don't get the ball then you know what is going to end up happening."
