Manchester United may be pipped to the post in its pursuit of Antoine Semenyo, with Liverpool having the upper hand in the race for the forward's signature this summer.
The Bournemouth ace has been turning heads among Premier League clubs following another standout season on the south coast.
The Independent suggests that Semenyo is likely to be one of several players departing Bournemouth in the upcoming transfer window, with Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez also potentially heading for the exit.
Both Huijsen and Kerkez have been linked with Liverpool, too.
Interestingly, it's suggested that Semenyo's wage demands would be significantly lower than those of Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, a player Arsenal have long admired.
Liverpool has been monitoring Semenyo since last November, according to Sky Sports, who reported that he was among the players scouted by the club
United, meanwhile, could miss out on Viktor Gyokeres, who is believed to be open to joining any of United's rivals - Arsenal, Liverpool, or Manchester City.
However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can secure Semenyo's services, despite seemingly having an edge in the chase
I know we will try to keep him there, and as long as he can continue to do the things that he is doing, he is going to be very valuable for us."
Rumors indicate that Bournemouth could demand a fee in excess of £50 million ($66.3 million) for Semenyo in the summer.
