Liverpool have a history of activating players' release clauses and Dean Huijsen could be the next star on the list following the defender's recent confirmation.

The 19-year-old centre-back is one of the most sought after upcoming stars this summer after an impressive breakthrough Premier League campaign and the Reds have reportedly held talks with the Spaniard's representatives ahead of the summer.

Huijsen has had a stellar season at Bournemouth, who bought the Spaniard from Juventus for just over £13m.

Following Huijsen's first campaign in the Premier League, the Cherries are on track to earn an impressive return on their initial investment in the youngster, especially after Huijsen confirmed the existence of a release clause in his contract.

Discussing a possible move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, Huijsen told El Chiringuito TV, as quoted by ESPN: "I have a contract until 2030, [but] I do have a [release] clause.

A host of Premier League clubs are interested in the 19-year-old such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle.

The confirmation of a release clause for Huijsen would have caught Liverpool’s attention.

The current Premier League leaders have a history of capitalising when it comes to securing a deal via a contract clause.

World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister was brought to Merseyside from Brighton for just £35m - a steal for the skills and talent the Argentinian possesses.

Initial transfer rumours had hinted that clubs would have to find around £70m for the midfielder, but the Reds took advantage of Mac Allister's clause and secured themselves a bargain.

Dominik Szoboszlai is another prime example of Liverpool using a release clause to secure a key target.

The Hungarian's was more expensive than Mac Allister's at £60.1m, but a big reason for the Reds activating the clause was to beat the competition.

A release clause is a fee that has been pre-agreed between player and club when signing a contract.

This allows a club like Liverpool to avoid negotiation talks with a club and get one foot in the door ahead of rival sides.

Although Huijsen confirmed the existence of a release clause, he didn’t reveal the exact figure, though reports suggest it’s around £50m.

It would certainly be a significant portion of Liverpool’s transfer budget, especially when they have their eyes on players such as Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and another Cherries star Milos Kerkez.
