David Ornstein has confirmed that Liverpool have held meetings with the representatives of Dean Huijsen.
The Spanish centre-back is expected to be at transfer tug-of-war at the end of the season, with Liverpool’s name in the hat amongst Europe’s elite.
Fabrizio Romano was the first to report Huijsen’s £50 million release clause, confirming that it will become active this summer.
The player then confirmed that the clause indeed exists in his contract.
Although Bournemouth is keen to keep him by proposing a new contract, his chances of staying appear low due to strong interest from elite clubs.
The £50m release clause, while substantial, is deemed cost-effective compared to premiums for Jarrad Branthwaite (£70m+) or Marc Guehi.
A release-clause activation would mirror previous successes like Dominik Szoboszlai’s acquisition via release clause, offering financial predictability amid volatile markets.
Liverpool faces intense competition, particularly from Real Madrid—a club Huijsen openly admires.
The defender’s idolization of Sergio Ramos and recent acknowledgment of Madrid’s interest complicate negotiations.
Nevertheless, the club is still willing to make an attempt to land who can only be described as the hottest centre-back prospect on the market.
Writing in his weekly Athletic Q&A segment, David Ornstein has confirmed that Liverpool have held meetings with 19-year-old – but no formal offers have been forthcoming:
“Liverpool are among the clubs with a firm interest in Dean Hujisen,” the transfer journalist wrote
“They have held meetings or conversations with his camp in the last week but I’m not aware of offers being made yet.”
“Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle and Real Madrid are among the other clubs interested.”
Ibrahima Konaté’s contract expiry in 2026 necessitate defensive reinforcements regardless of Van Dijk’s situation
Jarell Quansah’s emergency right-back deployment against Everton highlighted depth issues that the club should look to address in the summer.
