Steven Gerrard has been tipped to make a Rangers return
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard could return to Rangers following his departure from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, according to Ibrox legend Ally McCoist.
Gerrard's tenure in the Saudi Pro League was marked by challenges, and he ultimately left by mutual consent at the end of January.
Now without a club, he will be eager to recapture the managerial success he experienced during his first job in Glasgow, where he led his team to a Scottish league title in 2021 before moving to Aston Villa, only to be sacked after 11 months in the head coach position.
McCoist, who made nearly 600 appearances for Rangers, believes that if Gerrard wants to rediscover his managerial prowess, returning to a familiar and successful stomping ground might be the answer.
"It wouldn't surprise me if Steven Gerrard came back to Ibrox," McCoist shared with talkSPORT BET.
"He's obviously held in really high regard by the supporters because of the league title he won, and his next job is going to be vitally important for him.
"Things haven’t gone according to plan for him after he left Rangers.
A little bit like Frank Lampard going to Coventry – his next appointment was really important to him as well, so we’ll see what Steven ends up choosing to do with his career."

Yet, though McCoist has expressed that Gerrard would be gladly received back in Glasgow, the managerial spot at Rangers is not open.
Philippe Clement is securely in office, with prior scrutiny on the Belgian having eased, reports the Mirror.
"I think at this moment in time, however, the majority of Rangers fans have accepted that Philippe Clement has been given the backing of the board," McCoist continued.
"In fairness to him, there's been a steady improvement in performances and results – they did really well to finish in the top eight of the Europa League table, particularly given the strength of some of the teams that they played.
They've been really poor in some games."
However, despite expectations that Gerrard will return to the UK if and when he is offered a new managerial position, the Reds icon valued his time away from the UK
"I was warmly welcomed, and I have enjoyed the chance to work in a new country with a different culture," stated Gerrard in his farewell statement from Al-Ettifaq.
