It's claimed Liverpool is interested in signing Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa this summer as he is viewed as a budget alternative to principal target Alexander Isak, who is likely to prove too costly.
Isak, who netted in Newcastle's Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool last month, has scored 25 goals in 38 appearances this season, firmly cementing his reputation as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the 25-year-old Sweden international but he is contracted to the Magpies until 2028, and they have no desire to sell as Eddie Howe looks to continue to build a squad capable of challenging for the biggest honors.
Isak may push for an exit if Newcastle fails to qualify for next season's Champions League but the likelihood is that he would cost close to $200 million, which would of course be prohibitive.

In January, Villa rejected a £60 million ($80 million) bid from Arsenal for Watkins, who is contracted to the Midlands club until 2028, and it is unlikely that Liverpool would spend anything close to that amount of money for a player of his age.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is named as one of the clubs that could move for Bryan Mbeumo, who has scored 18 Premier League goals for Brentford this season
Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle are all said to be fans of the Cameroon international, who is capable of playing in a number of positions across the front line.
It is claimed by Caught Offside that Brentford is "braced for approaches" from other clubs for Mbeumo and would likely entertain offers around the £50-55 million ($66-73 million), although that seems low considering his output this season as well as his generally impressive numbers since arriving on the Premier League scene in 2021.
Mbeumo has scored 40 goals across his four seasons in the top flight, which is particularly impressive considering Brentford's status as a relative minnow in the division.
