Liverpool have reportedly made contact with another option to replace Darwin Nunez this summer.
It is no longer news that Nunez is highly likely to be sold by Liverpool this summer.
The 2024/2025 season has proven to be another frustrating chapter in the Uruguay international’s Liverpool career.
Despite his £85m price tag, the striker has managed just seven goals and five assists across all competitions.
His struggle for consistent playing time is evident, with only 16 starts from his 35 appearances and 23 matches as a substitute.
The statistical underperformance is concerning for a player of Nunez’s calibre and price tag, and Liverpool is said to be willing to cut their losses and sanction a deal for his departure this summer.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that movements have already started in the player’s camp over a possible summer departure.
“For sure, I told you several times that I expect Darwin Nunez to be one of the names to watch in the summer,” Romano noted last week.
“There is movement.
Movement has already started around Darwin Nunez, who is now in an important moment of the season with Liverpool.
That’s the mission for Nunez?
Win the Premier League and then consider a move in the summer.
Alexander Isak is thought to be Liverpool’s preferred option to replace Nunez, and Diogo Jota, who could also be on his way out of Liverpool.
However, the Sweden international, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Barcelona, will not come cheap, and so Liverpool are already making concrete moves.
One player who is said to be on the Reds’ radar as a replacement for Nunez and a cheaper alternative for Isak is Brighton’s João Pedro.
The Brazilian has scored eight goals for the Seagulls this season and provided seven assists.
According to Caught Offside, the 23-year-old is rapidly becoming one of Arne Slot’s preferred choices.
Caught Offside sources claim that “Liverpool have established contact with the entourage” of the Brighton attacker to discuss the possibility of a move in the summer.”
The report added that “the Brighton striker could be available for around €50 million, nearly half of what is required for Isak.
Competition for Pedro is said to be increasing, with the report also revealing that “the Brazilian player has already attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United.
“For this reason, to gain an advantage, Liverpool have already made initial contact with his agent and started preliminary discussions to explore the margins for a move in the summer.”
