Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with one of the Premier League’s most sought-after defenders.

The Reds have been quiet in the last two transfer windows but are expected to reinforce considerably this summer.

The Reds’ attack and defence are two areas where new players are expected, while the goalkeeping department is also set for some changes with the imminent arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.

Several names have cropped up in recent weeks as options Arne Slot’s side are considering.

Assane Diao, Alexander Isak, Jesus Rodriguez, Benjamin Sesko and most recently, Kingsley Coman are a few attacking names linked with a move to Anfield.

Elsewhere, Milos Kerkez, Jorrel Hato, and Marc Guehi are among the defensive options Liverpool are reportedly considering.

A recent report revealed that Liverpool are “at the front of the queue” to sign Guehi, who as also linked with an Anfield switch last summer.

Meanwhile, the Reds were also named as one of the serious clubs in the race for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.

The 19-year-old defender has been one of the most impressive transfer stories of this season.

He joined Bournemouth from Juventus in a £15m deal last summer.

However, his impressive showing for the top-six-chasing Cherries has alerted several top clubs in Europe over a potential move.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool have initiated talks with the Danish youngsters and are planning to mak an offer.

“According to Caught Offside sources, Liverpool and Arsenal are closely following Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen,” the report said.

“Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have already initiated talks to sign the young defender.

The Premier League clubs are expected to make an offer of €30-35 million for Huijsen.”

Huijsen has made 22 league appearances for Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth team this season and scored two goals.

Huijsen’s £50 million release clause was first reported by Fabrizio Romano, with the Italian confirming that it becomes active this summer.

While Bournemouth is eager to retain him by offering a new deal, the likelihood of Huijsen staying seems slim, given the interest from top-tier clubs.

His desire to play at the highest level could see him make a move in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking about the Premier League back in December of last year, it seems clear that the Spanish defender may want to remain in the division even if he does leave the Vitaliy Stadium:

“The Premier League is magical: every weekend, you can win or lose against anyone.

You find champions everywhere.”

“But no one has impressed me more than Haaland from Manchester City and Son from Tottenham.”
