With just days left of the January transfer window, Liverpool look desperately unlikely to do any business.
The Reds are in a good spot heading into the rest of the season, sitting top of the Premier League and remaining well placed in each of the cup competitions.
With Arne Slot revealing that Diogo Jota is back in training ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth, most of the Liverpool squad is fit and available, too.
As a result, the transfer focus for Liverpool is firmly on the summer.
There have been claims that the Reds are planning to ‘attack’ the market at the end of the season, which will be music to the ears of supporters.
Over the coming months, it’s likely that summer targets will start to become increasingly clear.
And according to German journalist Christian Falk, one player on Liverpool’s radar is Xavi Simons, who has only just joined RB Leipzig on a permanent basis.

A somewhat strange situation is developing with Simons.
The 21-year-old has been on-loan at Leipzig since 2023 and has now made his move permanent.
Liverpool were linked with Simons over the summer, but Head of Global Soccer Jurgen Klopp has moved to disrupt Slot’s plans and tie the Netherlands international down with Red Bull.

However, Simons’ deal at Leipzig will only run until 2027.
Slightly strange for a player who has reportedly cost them an initial £42m.
Posting on X on Thursday night, though, Falk hints that the reason for Simons’ short contract is because he’ll instantly be available on the market once again this summer.

“RB Leipzig are open to sell Xavi Simons in summer,” he says.
His new contract at Leipzig is until 2027.”
There will be some complicated explanation behind what is going on with Simons, but from the outside looking in, it seems an odd one.
PSG have sold the Dutchman to Leipzig for a big fee, with the German club then seemingly obligated to sell him on again after six months.

Either way, it sounds like Liverpool could be one of the sides to give Simons a new home in England.
In our opinion, for the fee being mooted, Liverpool have far bigger problems to deal with this summer.
However, with Simons a similar player to Harvey Elliott, and Elliott not being massively trusted by Slot, maybe there is something in it.
Whoever gets him will be signing a very good player, with Dani Olmo describing Simons as having ‘amazing dribbling‘ while the pair were teammates at Leipzig.
