Liverpool appear poised for a substantial transfer window in summer 2025, with key positions targeted for reinforcement as the club looks to build on their impressive campaign under manager Arne Slot.
With the Premier League recently confirming the summer 2025 transfer window will open between June 1-10 and then from June 16 to September 11, the Reds’ recruitment team should and will be laying groundwork for transfer business.
The acquisition of a new left-back seems all but certain for Liverpool this summer, with the club actively seeking a long-term successor to Andy Robertson.
The Scottish international, who has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s defense since 2017, has shown signs that the club might need to plan for the future in this position.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as the primary candidate for the role.
Beyond the left-back position, the club would be wise to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Despite Ryan Gravenberch’s impressive performances in the deep-lying midfield role this season, the club appears keen to add further quality in this area.
Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad, who was Liverpool’s primary midfield target last summer before he opted to remain in Spain, could see his name revisited by the club’s recruitment team.
But La Gazzeta Dello Sport have suggested that Liverpool could reignite interest in Atalanta’s Ederson, who was heavily linked to the club last summer.
Liverpool’s interest in Ederson dates back last summer amid the need for a holding midfielder, but no movement was forthcoming.
Since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 for €22.9 million, Ederson has evolved into one of Serie A’s most complete midfielders.
Over 131 appearances, he has scored 12 goals and provided four assists, excelling in a dual role as both a destroyer and a progressive passer.
His performances in the 2023-24 season were particularly notable, contributing seven goals and an assist across 53 games while anchoring Atalanta’s midfield during their Europa League campaign.
But according to Gazetta, Liverpool face stiff competition for Ederson’s signature, with Manchester United, Juventus, and Atlético Madrid all reportedly prepared to match the €60 million asking price13.
Atalanta, currently third in Serie A and chasing Champions League qualification, appear resigned to his departure, having identified Empoli’s Tino Anjorin as a potential replacement.
The Italian club’s pragmatic approach—cashing in on a player with three years remaining on his contract—reflects their recognition of Ederson’s elevated market value following two stellar seasons.
Speaking on the speculation last summer, the Brazilian midfielder said that he would be open to a move to the Premier League:
“I don’t know [which league suits me best], I’ve thought about it a lot, I like Italy, I’m well adapted, but I’m curious about the Premier League, so I don’t know.”
“I’m still growing, so I don’t know if I’ll stay in Italy, I think I still have more to prove?
If I go somewhere else, I will continue to grow”,
