The Icons Series golf tournament brought together some of football’s biggest names for a competitive yet friendly event.
Hosted at Reignwood Icons of Football, the tournament featured 24 former football stars competing for fun, charity, and, in one special moment, a $10M jackpot.
Liverpool legend nearly made history with a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the $10M Swing challenge.
Standing 170 yards out on the 12th hole at Robinswood Golf Course, he struck an iron shot that had everyone holding their breath.
For a few seconds, it looked perfect – tracking straight toward the hole.
A successful shot would have instantly made him golf’s biggest single-event jackpot winner.
But in a cruel twist, the ball stopped just short, drawing a loud groan from the crowd.
After the near-miss, presenter Josh Denzel couldn’t resist teasing him.
“Before the broadcast, you told me you were trying not to think about the $10M prize – I bet you did when the ball was tracking towards the hole!?”
The former Liverpool man, always quick with a joke, admitted the pressure got to him.
But that wasn’t the only moment that got people talking.
Liverpool legend refuses to sign Manchester United shirt at golf tournament
At one point during the event, a fan approached Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler with a Manchester United shirt, hoping to get it signed.
Fowler took one look and refused.
No debate, no hesitation—just a firm no.
For a man who scored 183 goals for Liverpool, turning down a United request was as natural as finding the back of the net.
Even at a golf tournament, his loyalty to Liverpool never wavered.
