Despite his impressive form in the 2024-2025 season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in just 12 Premier League appearances, Salah has yet to receive any concrete offers from the club regarding a contract extension.
“I haven’t received any offer to stay at the club, and with December approaching, it seems more likely I’ll be leaving than staying,” Salah said after Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Southampton.
“It’s disappointing, but we will see what happens.”
The uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future has prompted comments from a Liverpool legend.
In quotes from The Mirror Ian Rush, a former Reds striker, has urged Salah to reconsider any potential move away from Anfield.
Rush, the leading all-time goalscorer in LFC history, has advised the Egyptian King that “the grass is not always greener on the other side.”
“Salah should think carefully, I left Liverpool to join Juventus, but I was fortunate enough to return.
“It’s a privilege to play for a club like Liverpool,” Rush explained.
“Liverpool is such a magnificent club.
“There’s a special bond with the fans here, and that’s something not many clubs can offer.”
Rush, who made two separate moves away from Liverpool during his career – first to Juventus and then to Leeds United – believes that leaving Anfield is not always the right decision.
“Players come and go, but Liverpool’s stature as a club is unmatched,” Rush added.
“I don’t think anyone wants to leave, especially when you see how much the club means to its supporters.
“Once you truly buy into what Liverpool stands for, it’s incredibly hard to walk away.”
Salah isn’t the only key player at Liverpool facing contract uncertainty.
Both captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold are also waiting for news on potential extensions, with their contracts set to expire in the coming months.
It was reported a couple of days ago that Virgil van Dijk had agreed a new contract with Liverpool?
But as of yet, nothing has been formally confirmed.
Despite being 32 years old, Mo Salah shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to be one of the Premier League’s most influential players.
His remarkable performances this season have only reinforced his status as one of Liverpool’s most important assets.
As the contract saga continues, Liverpool fans will be hoping that their star forward, along with other key figures like Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, will officially commit to the club for the long term.
