Liverpool only have exclusive contract talks rights with Mohamed Salah for another two-and-a-half months and loose speculation suggests the Reds are making contingency plans

Salah, who has been at Liverpool for more than seven years, turns 33 in June.

Reports are now claiming that the Reds are lining up a potential replacement for the Egyptian, should he indeed leave Anfield.

A number of outlets have linked Real Madrid 23-year-old winger Rodrygo to Liverpool, who may have a limited future at Los Blancos.

The Brazilian has played in all but one game so far this season, starting six of his nine La Liga outings, but has several young proteges looking to usurp him.

Arda Guler, who lit up Euro 2024 for Turkey, is one of a host of attackers looking to earn more game time this campaign.

Meanwhile, Endrick, a striker, is vying for minutes too and his progression could potentially see fellow new boy Kylian Mbappe eventually take up a wing role with Vinicius Jr locking down the left flank.

These prospects might take a few seasons to come to fruition, though.

But French outlet Le Foot makes the audacious claim that Liverpool have already decided that Rodrygo - who has three goals and two assists in 11 games this term - is their transfer target to ultimately replace Salah.

It adds that he would need convincing to join Liverpool with the player said to be comfortable in Madrid currently.

These reports should be taken with a large pinch of salt given that the ECHO understands Salah is eager to stay at Liverpool, with it not known how much progress has been made by the club in deciding their next steps.
