Cody Gakpo narrowly avoided being offside before being taken down in the penalty area by Lewis Cook, leading to a controversial penalty for Liverpool after suggestions that Gakpo might have stumbled over his own feet.
Post-conversion by Salah, the Cherries saw their potential leveller ruled out for an offside against Milos Kerkez during the build-up, denying David Brooks' goal.
Slot remarked: "If you want to win here maybe you need a bit of luck because the margins are so small.
"Our penalty was just not offside, their goal on 1-1 was on the margin offside, they hit the post twice.
We had our chances as well but it was a close call for us to win this game."
With a wry smile, Slot concluded: "We weren’t unlucky, let’s put it that way."
Earlier in the season, Bournemouth had demonstrated their prowess by defeating three of the current top four teams at home, competing fiercely for what would have been a transformative victory propelling them into the coveted Champions League spots.
Antoine Semenyo's effort rattled the woodwork with the scores level, while Marcus Tavernier also struck the post as Bournemouth were pressing despite being a goal down, and there was an impressive stop by Liverpool's Alisson from Semenyo.
Controversy arose just before the 30-minute mark when Bournemouth seemed poised to open the scoring.
"I haven’t seen it back but one of my players is on a clear one vs one with the goalkeeper and he’s fallen down," reacted Slot.
If they touch him that for me is a penalty.
"I can come up with three, four, five examples (this season) where we didn’t have the luck or the decision we deserved.
"That’s always the difficult thing in football, people will always say there’s that luck for Liverpool or for the one that is the one that is number one at the moment.
"This one is nothing to do with luck, it’s a clear one vs one."
Later in the match, Trent Alexander-Arnold limped off injured, causing concern for his availability for the upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham, with Slot expressing his doubts over the defender's readiness.
Reflecting on the tightly contested game, Bournemouth's Iraola considered the small margins that defined the result.
"We didn’t get the result obviously, but I think we gave us a chance," he remarked.
"I think the quality of the game has been quite high but against these top teams I think you need the small details to happen to your side sometimes.
"We hit the post.
The goal, just millimetres disallowed."
