After three straight victories, Liverpool Women were brought back down to earth with a bump with a 4-0 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday.

The result leaves the Reds seventh in the Women's Super League standings going into the international break.

The final scoreline may have been different had Liverpool taken some of the chances they created.

But in the end City ran out comfortable winners thanks to two goals from Khadija Shaw and one each from Jill Roord and Gracie Prior.

Reds boss Matt Beard said: "It was a really frustrating day for us at Manchester City and unfortunately missed chances cost us.

"We had numerous opportunities and, unfortunately, we couldn’t quite convert them.

But we know these top sides can punish you and they took their opportunities.

Khadija Shaw is a world-class finisher and when she had the opportunities she took them, and we didn’t."

Crystal Palace up next before massive cup clash

The Reds do not have a game now until Sunday, March 2 when they travel to Crystal Palace.

That is followed the huge Women’s FA Cup quarter-final at Arsenal.

It has been confirmed that the last-eight showdown will take place at Meadow Park on Sunday, March 9 (2.30pm kick-off).

And while Liverpool must stew on the City loss for longer than they would hope, their manager is keen to offer a reminder of the progress they have made and that there is still much to look forward to.

Beard said: "We need to make sure we don’t let it ruin what a good 2025 it has been so far for us – progressing through two rounds of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, six points on the board in the league.
