Liverpool have made contact with the representatives of Alexander Isak
Liverpool are gearing up for a major squad overhaul this summer, having learned firsthand how an almost perfect season can unravel at the most crucial moments. Their abrupt exits from the FA Cup and Champions League, followed by the Carabao Cup final defeat, have highlighted the need for reinforcements to maintain their competitive edge.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have already initiated contact with individuals close to Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak regarding a potential summer transfer. The Swedish striker has long been on the Reds’ radar, and with Darwin Núñez’s future uncertain, Isak could be the marquee signing to bolster Arne Slot’s attack ahead of next season.

The soon-to-be Premier League champions are intensifying their pursuit of Swedish international Alexander Isak, with Arsenal and Mikel Arteta also keen on securing his signature. Despite Newcastle’s strong stance on keeping their star striker, interest in Isak continues to grow, making it increasingly challenging for the Magpies to fend off potential suitors. According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle will face an even tougher battle to retain him once the summer transfer window opens, as top clubs ramp up their efforts to lure him away.
The Carabao Cup champions are readying for ‘massive’ offers for the 25-year-old striker, who runs under contract until June of 2028.
Liverpool to face fierce competition for Isak
Since his move from Real Sociedad to Newcastle in 2022, Alexander Isak has been enjoying the best season of his career, netting 23 goals and providing five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions. The Swedish international has firmly established himself as a ‘world-class’ forward and currently sits third in the Premier League’s goal-scoring charts, trailing only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
Liverpool could be in the market for a new No. 9 this summer, especially if Darwin Núñez—who attracted significant interest from Saudi Arabian clubs in January, ends up leaving Anfield.
Despite Isak playing a pivotal role in securing Newcastle’s first major trophy in 70 years, the Magpies are determined to hold on to their star striker. However, according to Fabrizio Romano via Youtube, both Liverpool and Arsenal remain in close pursuit, with the Gunners eyeing Isak as a potential alternative to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Here is what Romano said:
“And they keep insisting, in private, in public, that they want to keep Alexander Isak. They hope to be in the Champions League next season, but in any case, they want to keep Alexander Isak at the club. So that’s the message from Newcastle.
“But I keep telling you that big, big, massive proposals will come to the table for Alexander Isak.
“Because Arsenal will be there. Arsenal want Isak. Sesko is the other name on the list, but for sure, Isak and Sesko are the two main names.
“Liverpool are also there for Alexander Isak, [and have] already made some contact with people close to the player.
The loss at Wembley highlighted the difference a clinical striker can make. Compared to the efforts the strikers in Red put up, one can see that the Newcastle counterpart is a cut above. There is little doubt that he will take Arne Slot’s frontline to another level if added to the roster.
