Liverpool’s march toward Premier League glory in the 2024/25 season has been aided significantly by their improved injury record, but Arne Slot’s side hasn’t been entirely immune to fitness concerns.

While strategic innovations have dramatically reduced player absences compared to previous campaigns, the Reds have still navigated several challenging injury situations involving key personnel.

At the heart of this transformation is Ruben Peeters, Liverpool’s first-team lead physical performance coach, who followed Slot from Feyenoord.

Peeters boasted a player availability record above 90 percent at the Dutch club and has implemented similar success at Liverpool.

Despite the overall positive trend, Liverpool have still weathered several significant injury blows throughout the season.

Diogo Jota has experienced the longest time out of the side with injury absences totaling 15 games, making him the most sidelined player in Slot’s squad.

Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott have each missed 14 games, with Chiesa’s absence particularly frustrating given his summer arrival.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez have both been out since early February.

But one man away from Liverpool whose picked up a disappointing injury is Luca Stephenson, who has spent this season on loan at Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.

He has been diagnosed with a double hernia, and as a result his season has ended.

The midfielder is now scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday, bringing an early end to his loan spell up in Scotland.

Additionally, Jim Goodwin disclosed that Stephenson has been playing through the discomfort of a double hernia for the past four months.

“It’s extremely disappointing to lose Luca at this stage,” Goodwin said post-match on DUTV.

“Luca has been playing with a double hernia for about the last four months.

“Liverpool have been brilliant and have allowed Luca to manage it himself.

He can play a number of positions and will never let you down.

“I am disappointed to lose Luca but also grateful for what he has given the jersey?

He’s a pleasure to work with and Liverpool are very lucky to have him.”
