At Liverpool, many youngsters are out on loan, hoping to prove themselves.

One young midfielder just showed that in a way most fans didn’t see coming.

Luca Stephenson has been one of those players.

The 21-year-old spent this season at Dundee United, where he played 34 matches.

But he’s now set for surgery that ends his campaign early, as per The Courier.

And what’s shocking is the reason why – Stephenson has been playing through a double hernia for the past four months.

His loan boss Jim Goodwin revealed the news this week.

Speaking to DUTV, Goodwin said, “It’s extremely disappointing to lose Luca at this stage.”

“Luca has been playing with a double hernia for about the last four months.”

He went on to praise both the player and his parent club.

“Liverpool have been brilliant and have allowed Luca to manage it himself.”

“Credit to him for the resilience and determination he has shown in order to play through the pain barrier for the club.”

Stephenson’s work rate and versatility also stood out.

“He’s been one of our standout players and most consistent performers week-to-week.”

“He can play a number of positions and will never let you down,” Goodwin added.

He didn’t hold back his admiration either.

“I am disappointed to lose Luca but also grateful for what he has given the jersey.”

“He’s a pleasure to work with and Liverpool are very lucky to have him.”

For Liverpool, it’s clear they have a committed and courageous young player on their hands.

This injury might sideline Stephenson for now, but his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.
