Liverpool have been named as one of the few clubs that can trigger the release clause of one of Bundesliga’s top strikers.
The Reds are expected to be in the summer market for a striker, with the future of Darwin Nunez increasingly looking away from Anfield.
Nunez has struggled to take his chance since his big-money move to Liverpool.
While there is no doubt about the Uruguay international’s talent and desire, things just haven’t worked for him at Liverpool, and all the signs point to a move to a new club in the summer.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had earlier reported that movements had started on Nunez.
He doubled down on his earlier assertion at the weekend, declaring that Nunez is set to leave Liverpool this summer.
“If you’re following the channel, you know I told you in January that from Saudi, they wanted Darwin Nunez.
The club was Al-Nassr,” he said.
“Al-Nassr already almost agreed on personal terms with the advisor of Darwin Nunez.”
“But then Liverpool decided not to sell the player in January.”
But things have now changed, Romano acknowledged.
“Darwin Nunez is expected to go.
Darwin Nunez is expected to try something new.
Darwin Nunez is ready for a new chapter,” he confirmed.
“And so Darwin can leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window and is fully expected to do so.”
Nunez’s imminent departure means the club will undoubtedly look for a new No.
These players fit the profile of the striker many Liverpool fans may be quietly wishing for.
Another player that may fit the profile, except for his age, is Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy.
The Guinea forward’s name has not been directly mentioned as a potential Liverpool target, but a new report by Sky Sports’ Patrick Berger has tentatively mentioned Liverpool in Guirassy’s transfer world.
According to Berger, Liverpool are among the few European giants that can trigger the 29-year-old striker’s release clause.
However, Berger did reveal that Guirassy is keen on staying at Dortmund, while the club are also keen on keeping him as one of the key faces of their rebuild.
While Guirassy’s age means that he is unlikely to feature on Liverpool’s radar for a potential No.
