The point ultimately is that the 24-year-old serial goalscorer would cease to be a Man City player, with Liverpool on standby to capitalise and win the title when the opportunity arrives.

By this point every club in the league should also know the outcome of Man City's legal battle with the Premier League over alleged financial discrepancies, which they strongly deny, and it will be interesting to see whether stars like Haaland do end up moving on if some of the speculated severe punishments are dealt.
