With key defenders like Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip all ruled out with long-term injuries, Liverpool urgently needed defensive reinforcements, but signing the 25-year-old Championship player was a twist few anticipated.
Upon his unexpected switch, Davies remarked: "I want to come in and play games to start with," and added, "I want to get my foot in the door and make myself a Premier League player rather than obviously a Championship player.

Championship return
In March 2021, Jurgen Klopp was questioned about the lack of game time for new signing Ben Davies.
The Liverpool manager responded by drawing parallels with Andy Robertson's development, who took time to settle in after his transfer from Hull City in July 2017 before becoming one of the world's top left-backs.
"It was always clear when a lot of players came here to Liverpool, and the most famous story is Andy Robertson took half a year in a normal season where pretty much everything else was kind of settled to settle in," Klopp explained.
"Ben is a really good player but he has to get used to all this stuff here as well, that's how it is.
It became apparent that Davies' stint at Liverpool was nearing its end, and he agreed to a loan move to Sheffield United in August 2021.
This proved to be a shrewd deal for Liverpool, as they recouped the £500,000 initially spent on Davies through the loan fee.
"I've always liked Sheffield United as a club, playing against them," Davies declared upon his arrival at Bramall Lane.
Liverpool managed to strike a savvy £4 million agreement with the Europa League finalists for a player who never featured in a competitive match for the Reds.
"I am very excited to join Rangers and I am really looking forward to taking this next step in my career," Davies expressed.
