Whether that is positive or negative, it is something every football fan eagerly follows.
In Trent Alexander-Arnold’s case, this is no different, as the world watches on as his contract saga continues to gather interest.
In the last few days, the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold “immediately accepted” the proposal from Real Madrid has rocked the football world and has shattered Liverpudlian hearts.
Trent has received heavy backlash as a result, with many fans furious that a player born in Liverpool, who has rose through the academy and has achieved it all with the first team has chosen to move on.
The England right-back’s contract expires in June, and for the majority of the season, he has remained committed to staying silent on any rumours that could be circling around him.
The only glimpse of any sort of reaction from him came in Liverpool’s 5-0 win at the London Stadium against West Ham towards the end of last year.
He made a talking gesture with his hand towards his ear, pictured above, suggesting that he won’t be listening to any transfer talk on his name, or opinion of fans and pundits alike.
However, Liverpool’s players are said to have had a much more measured reaction to the Trent news, as Sky Sports reveal.
The online publication reveals that the Liverpool dressing room is unmoved by the news, and that they understand Trent Alexander-Arnold’s position and that it is not just about football but sampling a different way of life.
It must be noted that whilst widely trusted journalists such as Fabrizio Romano have issued developments on the situation regarding Trent, there has been no official confirmation from Real Madrid or Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold’s departure will have no bearing on Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk’s contract situations, as the two try to negotiate their own futures.
Liverpool are said to be optimistic about securing Salah and Van Dijk’s future at the club, whilst it remains extremely unlikely that Alexander-Arnold will be in the red of Liverpool next season.
It remains to be seen what the backlash could potentially be like if all three key players of the current team were to head out the door permanently this summer.
