Trent Alexander-Arnold has handed Liverpool a major fitness boost after training with his team-mates on Wednesday.

And Darwin Nunez is also expected to come back into contention after he was well enough to play a part in the session.

Alexander-Arnold has been absent for over a month after hurting his ankle in the second half of the penalty-shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, missing the last four games in total that included the Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle and the Merseyside derby win over Everton.

The right-back had targeted a comeback before the month is out and he has now taken a significant step forward in that aim after taking part in Wednesday's session at the AXA Training Centre.

Alexander-Arnold is undergoing the final stages of his rehabilitation and it's unclear at this stage if Sunday's trip to Leicester City will come too soon for the vice captain, with Arne Slot set to deliver an update when he previews that game on Friday.

Should the weekend prove beyond Alexander-Arnold, the England international, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign, might be cleared to make his return when Tottenham are hosted at Anfield on April 27 in a game that might yet clinch the title for the league leaders.

With the 26-year-old still the subject of strong interest from Real Madrid, who are keen to bring him to La Liga as a free agent, Alexander-Arnold's return to action could coincide with his final weeks as a Liverpool player.

Nunez, who missed Sunday's game against West Ham United with an illness, was also involved at the Kirkby base, meaning he will be cleared for a comeback against the relegation-threatened Foxes.

The Uruguay striker was at Anfield for Sunday's 2-1 win over the Hammers but watched on from behind the substitutes' bench after falling ill over the weekend.

Victory for Liverpool will take them to within three points of a second Premier League title in five years and Slot's men might even be officially declared champions at the King Power should they win and Arsenal lose earlier in the day at Ipswich Town.
