Decision-makers 'need to spell out' exactly what Arne Slot is and isn't allowed to do whilst banned from the touchline for Liverpool, says former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett.

The Reds' head coach has served one of a two-match ban dealt by the Football Association this week for an incident in the Premier League match vs Everton earlier this month.

On the morning of Wednesday's victory over Newcastle United at Anfield, Liverpool learned the punishment for Slot, who had been initially sent off after the Merseyside derby then charged of having 'acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee'.

He was to be sentenced to a place in the stands for consecutive Premier League fixtures vs Newcastle two days ago and Southampton at Anfield on Saturday, March 8, and was also given a hefty £70,000 fine.

Slot's assistant John Heitinga led the Reds from the dugout vs the Magpies whilst his other assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, is also serving the same suspension with a £7,000 personal fine for the same reasons after the Everton clash.

As a club Liverpool were fined £50,000 and their rivals £65,000 for the charge of having 'failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle'.

But in the aftermath, Hackett has zeroed in on whether this is in fact a punishment or merely a hindrance for the Liverpool head coach.

After all, his team fared comfortably in their 2-0 win on Wednesday.

"Let’s start with how UEFA operate their touchline ban.

The acting coach in the technical area is often seen to be wearing an earpiece."

And so, this assessment of Slot's ongoing touchline ban resulted in the former head of refereeing body PGMOL making a demand of those implementing the punishment.
