Liverpool are being linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

The Germany international's future has been the subject of intense speculation ever since last summer, where he was reportedly a target for Bayern Munich at the time.

Tah has entered the final six months of his contract with Leverkusen, which has ramped up speculation that he could leave the reigning Bundesliga champions on a free transfer.

Liverpool have been tentatively linked with a move for the 29-year-old in the past, and now a fresh update has emerged about the defender.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have joined the race to sign Tah in the summer as a free agent.

The report claims that the Reds will face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona for the signing of Tah.

It has been suggested that Barcelona are the club most likely to sign Tah, with claims that the player has already outlined his desire to move to the La Liga giants.

Liverpool are still mentioned in the report, but it remains to be seen if the interest turns out to be genuine, or if they will look to beat Barca to secure the centre-back's signature.

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah are the current central defensive options in the Reds squad.

Van Dijk is out of contract in the summer, and there continues to be uncertainty over whether or not the Liverpool captain will sign an extension.

Konate's deal expires at the end of next season, while Gomez was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield last summer.
