Despite limited transfer activity under Arne Slot, Liverpool have managed to climb to the top of the Premier League in his debut season.

Prior to joining Liverpool in 2015 from Manchester City, Milner had already enjoyed a 13-year career in the Premier League, reports the Mirror.

Despite being offered a new contract by Manchester City, the Englishman was eager to play in central midfield, rather than being deployed as a wide midfielder, which was primarily his role at the club.

After receiving an offer from Brendan Rodgers to play in his preferred position, Milner seized the opportunity and was promptly appointed as vice-captain to Jordan Henderson, who took over the captaincy following Steven Gerrard's move to LA Galaxy that summer.

Milner played a pivotal role in Liverpool's most successful era since the 1980s, winning every major trophy at the club except for the Europa League during his eight-year stint at Anfield, the longest of his 20-year plus career.

Among his 26 goals and 45 assists for Liverpool, he set a record for the most assists in a Champions League season in 2018/19 with 11, a record that remains unbroken.

Joel Matip holds the distinction of being Jurgen Klopp's first signing at Liverpool, having signed a four-year pre-contract agreement with the Reds in February 2016 upon the expiry of his Schalke contract.

The acquisition of Virgil van Dijk in 2018 gave Matip a high-quality centre-back partner, and they became the Premier League's most formidable defensive duo.

Despite his consistent performances, recurring injuries limited his involvement in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, during which he played just 25 games in total.

Matip made a successful return from injury in the 2021/22 season, partnering with Van Dijk as Liverpool pursued a quadruple.

Liverpool turned out to be his final club before he announced his retirement from football.

Robbie Fowler, affectionately known as 'God' by Liverpool fans, left the club in 2001 as their top Premier League scorer, having netted 120 goals in the top-flight and 171 in all competitions.

Gerard Houllier's preference for a Michael Owen and Emile Heskey forward duo meant that Fowler needed regular game time, and a strained relationship with Houllier led to his departure to Leeds in a £12million deal.

In a surprising turn of events, he returned to Anfield in January 2006.

Although he only made 39 appearances and scored 12 goals during his second spell at the club, bringing his total Liverpool goal tally to 183, a new generation of Reds fans got the chance to see Fowler in a Liverpool kit once again.

The former Germany international, who joined Liverpool in 2000, was already a seasoned champion before moving to Anfield.

The ex-defender added three trophies to his collection in his debut season, including the FA Cup, League Cup and the UEFA Cup.
