Liverpool do not intend to sell Jarell Quansah to Newcastle this summer after the centre-back forced his way into Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.
The 22-year-old was linked with a move to St James’ Park last summer but remained in the north west and penned a new contract in October.
Quansah progressed through the Liverpool academy and made his first-team debut at the start of last season following a successful loan spell at Bristol Rovers.
The ace has made 55 appearances for the Reds but has only started one Premier League match since being hauled off at half time during his side’s opening match of the season against Ipswich.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are planning for next season with Quansah on board.
They rebuffed an approach from Newcastle last summer and are not considering selling the player to the Magpies during this year’s summer transfer window.
Newcastle are on the hunt for fresh talent after overcoming Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final earlier this month.
And The Times have reported that Magpies chiefs believe a bid of £30million plus add-ons may tempt the Reds into selling Quansah.
Eddie Howe is targeting a right-sided centre-back, with the Liverpool man possessing significant support among senior figures at St James’ Park.
Newcastle enquired about Quansah last summer when the Reds were keen to take Anthony Gordon to Anfield.
The clubs eventually opted against doing business with each other, with the Magpies pulling the plug on a deal that would have seen Joe Gomez heading in the opposite direction to Gordon.
Newcastle also missed out on landing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace ahead of the start of the campaign and will be desperate to bolster their backline later this year, especially if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Howe’s side currently find themselves in sixth place in the Premier League table, with the top five teams likely to qualify for the top tier European competition next term.
Liverpool may be reluctant to sell Quansah due to the uncertainty around Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, who are both out of contract at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold appears to be edging towards a transfer to Real Madrid, while Van Dijk is reportedly eyeing up a move to the MLS.
And Liverpool boss Arne Slot will not want to leave his backline exposed as he aims to build on his promising debut campaign in the Anfield dugout.
