Arne Slot has provided a disappointing Liverpool injury update ahead of the trip to face Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

The Reds enter this match on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers,  with their away form being particularly strong having won nine league matches on the road this season.

Historically, Aston Villa has struggled against Liverpool, winning only seven of their past 41 meetings.

The last encounter between the two teams ended in a 2-0 win for Liverpool at Anfield, with goals from Darwin Núñez and Mohamed Salah.

Despite this, Aston Villa will be motivated to improve their record at home and cause an upset against the league leaders.

And for Liverpool, the Dutchman has delivered a big injury blow ahead of the clash.

Liverpool injury update

Speaking in his pre-Aston Villa press conference, the Reds boss confirmed that Joe Gomez will miss most of the season with his reoccurrence of a hamstring injury.

Joe Gomez’s return to action was cut short when he was substituted just 10 minutes into Liverpool’s FA Cup match against Plymouth Argyle.

This premature exit marked a frustrating setback for Gomez, who had been recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in December during a match against West Ham.

“Joe will take quite a long time,” Arne Slot said.

“He is going to be out for numerous weeks because of a hamstring injury.”

“Joe tries to do everything to be with the team, he works really hard to come back.

It’s very hard for a player at any point of season especially now,” he concluded.

He added on Gomez amid concerns that his season is over:

“He will miss large parts of the end of the season, but we expect him to be back in the end phase of the season.”

“Will he need surgery?

He might but that’s something we still have to assess.”

Curtis Jones will be back after serving his suspension against Wolves while Cody Gakpo is the other confirmed absentee for Wednesday night.
