The seemingly relentless churn of games for Liverpool throughout February made it difficult at times to distinguish one match from the next.

With Liverpool, despite being 2-0 ahead, tiring in both mind and body, the Midlanders pulled one goal back and threatened to further dent the Reds' title hopes after the blow of Everton's controversial equaliser just days earlier.

The home support could easily have become a hindrance rather than help, as noted by Andy Robertson who, after one failed Wolves attack, motioned to the Kop as if to tell them to settle down.

And while it may not have been immediate, it didn't take long for the message to be recognised throughout the stadium, Anfield cheering every tackle, goal kick and throw-in won during the closing stages to help a jaded Liverpool drag themselves over the line to earn an important victory and maintain their seven-point advantage at the summit.

That became eight with the midweek draw at Aston Villa which, while frustrating, was hardly a terminal blow to the title hopes of Arne Slot's side.

And the value of that became apparent a few days later when, in what already looks likely to be the pivotal weekend in the Premier League title race, shot-shy Arsenal suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to West Ham United before Liverpool triumphed 2-0 at outgoing champions Manchester City.

So to Wednesday and the Reds' next home game against fellow League Cup finalists Newcastle United.

The supporters who descended upon Anfield already understood the assignment and ensured a vibrant atmosphere even before Dominik Szoboszlai's opener was followed by the news Arsenal had dropped further points at Nottingham Forest.

Alexis Mac Allister's second was sufficient for Liverpool fans to declare, as is the tradition, their side is going to win the league.

And given Liverpool are unbeaten on the road in the Premier League this term, it seems unlikely they will claim no rewards from their remaining travels.

Intriguingly, Liverpool are only three points better off this season than at the same stage last term, when they had accrued 64 points from 28 matches.

This season, even if they win their game in hand, the Gunners and Pep Guardiola's side will be 10 and 17 points behind the Reds respectively.

Arsenal could be 16 points behind Liverpool the next time they play in the Premier League at home to Chelsea, with Slot's side entertaining rock-bottom Southampton the previous day.
